Today we are thrilled to announce the first publicly available version of the Ingres VectorWise product.
This is a result of cooperation of VectorWise and Ingres, a leading open-source database company.
We are excited to finally share this technology with a wide audience of users.
The feedback we have received during the Technology Preview Program confirms that our solution
provides very high performance while, at the same time, reducing both cost and complexity of a database solution.
Please see the Ingres VectorWise project page for more information,
including a press release,
user stories and access to our product.
Over the last months VectorWise has been cooperating with the group of Prof. Kai Uwe-Sattler from TU Ilmenau on investigating the performance of solid-state drives in the context of database systems. We are happy to announce that the results of this research have been accepted to appear at the DAMON 2010 workshop, collocated with the SIGMOD 2010 conference.
We are happy to announce that the research paper "Positional Update Handling in Column Stores",
written in cooperation with the CWI institute,
has been accepted to the SIGMOD 2010
conference.
This is one of the examples of how VectorWise cooperates with leading research institutes on bringing continuous innovation into the database technology.
Today VectorWise and Ingres announce the first publicly available version
of the combined Ingres VectorWise system.
Through the Technology Preview Program
our customers and partners are able to
take a peek at the features and performance of the coming product
and influence its future development.

We are very happy to congratulate Peter Boncz, Stefan Manegold and Martin
Kersten on their 10-Year Best Paper Award received at the Very Large
Databases (VLDB) 2009. This prize, awarded for the
1999 paper called "Database Architecture Optimized for the New Bottleneck: Memory
Access", demonstrates the importance of many years of research
at CWI in the area of hardware-conscious databases, which became a
foundation for VectorWise.
We are very proud of this achievement by Peter Boncz,
co-founder of VectorWise, and honored to continue working with him.
For more information, please see the CWI and Ingres press releases.
Today we announce Ingres VectorWise,
a collaborative project between VectorWise and
Ingres Corporation,
a leading open-source database company.
The project focuses on integrating the
cutting-edge VectorWise engine with the familiar
interfaces and tools of Ingres.
We believe the resulting system will provide ultimate database performance
to a wide user base following
the open business model of Ingres.
