The goal of the collaboration between Ingres and VectorWise is to integrate the VectorWise engine into the existing Ingres open-source database, thereby providing ultimate performance following the open business model of Ingres. By integrating into an established relational product, the VectorWise engine can reach a wide customer base without any compromises to its technology. Additionally, the open-source model of Ingres goes well with the academic mindset of the inventors of the VectorWise engine and provides a basis for future academic or commercial innovation.

To ensure that VectorWise adapts to the innovations in computer hardware and to open doors for novel research, Ingres VectorWise is working with leading chip manufacturers on exploiting the features of the latest and future processors for database processing.
